About this home

Discover a tranquil retreat in this inviting home. The residence features unique artwork, updated original architectural finishes, a monochrome interior with wood accents and subtle touches of colour, and a mix of mid-century and antique furnishings.

Whether you arrive by train (a leisurely five-minute walk from Brighton Station) or by car (there are two dedicated off-street parking spaces), you begin your stay by entering a gate into a completely private courtyard.

Sarah and Jane Bird inherited this two-storey cottage in 1888 from their father Abraham, who purchased it in 1870 from Alfred Martin, for whom it was built circa 1839. Sarah died in 1890 and Jane sold the property in 1895 to E.M.A. Dodds.

This two bedroom cottage is located in a very quiet residential neighborhood that was originally home to several ice houses serving Brighton and Hove. The cottage was extensively renovated in 2000 and again in 2017 and preserves the charming and eccentric quality of a 175-year-old building combined with modern comfort.

Furnished with a mixture of antiques, original artwork, and carefully chosen new items, it has two full bathrooms, a dedicated desk area with Aeron chair, a comfortable bespoke sofa-bed, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, clothes washer, and (unusual for England) a separate tumble dryer.

The master bedroom features a king sized bed, which converts to two twins if required. There is a second queen sized bed in the finished loft (but does have limited head height)and a sitting room/dressing room outside the first floor bathroom. High definition flat screen TVs in the living room and master bedroom, along with high-speed wireless internet throughout, make this cottage comfortable and unusual, perfect for a weekend or a longer residence.

The cottage is a comfortable walk to everything that brings visitors to Brighton: the seaside (ten minutes), the Brighton Pavilion (ten minutes), restaurants and shops in the North Laine (five minutes), major brand shopping at Churchill Square (five minutes).

The guests have access to the whole property.

I'm the property manager and will meet the guests on arrival, give them keys and leave them to have a good time. Should they require assistance during their stay I'm on hand.

The home is in central Brighton just a five minute walk from the train station, and great location for visiting London. The house is on a quiet street and has many local amenities nearby, as well as the unique character of the North Laine area.

With two parking spaces this house is a great find. You can always get the train and buses, taxi's and the a shared bike system.

Great stay in Brighton, highly recommended lovely cottage right in the centre with parking. The location is ideal for visiting Brighton, close to the station and all the independent shops, easy walk to the beach too. The free parking is fine for two medium sized cars and a real bonus. The cottage feels like the cottage it was but has been updated to make it a perfect place to stay. The kitchen is really well equipped, matching sets of everything you need. Spare sets of keys too which makes a great difference as we only used the key lock box on arrival and when leaving. We used the first floor bedroom and bathroom, and separately my brother used the sofa bed in the sitting room with the ground floor bathroom. That suited us better than the bedroom on the mezzanine floor but we could easily have accommodated another one or two.

Loved staying at this really cute home, had everything we needed. Very cozy and location was great, everything in easy walking distance, the station; town center; sea. Commnication with hosts was top notch. We had a wonderful Christmas, able to cook a full Christmas dinner and appreciated that decorations were in the house, which made us feel very welcome and at home.

We had a fab bank holiday staying here. The location is so good and it’s actually very quiet. Close to the station, bars Loved the mix of furniture and accessories and the court yard is perfect on a sunny day. The Location is fab and renny the owner was reachable before durning and after our stay - great communication.

Our stay was brilliant. It was value for money. It was close to every activity planned on our trip. The apartment was just right for the occasion.

Wonderful house in a perfect location. The big bedroom was perfect. Very tidy, excellent location and the parking was a huge bonus. The upstairs room was difficult for my husband who at 6 foot 3, couldn’t stand up straight. Could also do with some privacy screening of some sort in the upstairs bathroom - some things we don’t like to share. Otherwise - perfect. Thank you!

Great cottage in the heart of Brighton. Great cottage, centrally located with tasteful decoration. It was clean and had ample pots, pans, hairdryers etc. Stairs are very steep so might not suit those with limited mobility.

We had an wonderful stay at Bird Sisters Cottage - it is the cutest little house right in the heart of Brighton, walking distance to the beach & shopping, a grocery store around the corner for supplies & loads of restaurant & pub options. The gorgeous little cottage is really well equipped with everything you need for your stay & Renny super helpful & fast to respond to any questions.

What a beautiful cottage right in the centre of Brighton. Bird Cottage was lovely as it's beautifully decorated with lots of added touches. It felt so homely I could have stayed longer. Renny was a great host as it was seamless check in and check out. Lots of information about the cottage and where to find everything. The bonus for us was the parking for 2 cars and close to the centre of Brighton .

  • Lucy · 5.0/5

  • Joanne · 5.0/5

We have just spent a fantastic weekend in the cottage, it was exactly as described, clean and cosy with everything you could possibly need. Extra touches like milk and jam tea and coffee, shower gels, soaps, washing up liquid and tea towels which really made it a home from home. It was in a great location just a short walk into town. The host Renny friendly and informative and proactive in providing information and responses. What a great little find. Will definitely be booking again.
